Eaveside

Methodology v1.0 · Reader-supported, never pay-to-rank

Independent research, no pay-to-rank

The roofing contractor in your town isn’t on Angi’s top 10 for a reason.

Eaveside publishes original research on roofing contractors in tier-3 and tier-4 markets — small towns and rural counties where horizontal directories peddle the same five out-of-state storm-chasers. Every contractor we feature is screened against a public methodology: license, insurance, supplier accounts, permit history, and a phone call we score against a rubric.

Where we’ve published research

More markets are added in priority order — small towns in storm-belt states first, where homeowners face the highest concentration of bad-actor contractors.

What makes this different

Why we built Eaveside

Roofing is the single largest unplanned expense most homeowners ever face — and it almost always happens under pressure, after a storm, with a stranger in the driveway holding a clipboard. The directories that should help (Angi, HomeAdvisor, Thumbtack) sell ranking position to the contractors paying the most for it. The AI listicles ranking on “best roofers in [your town]” were written by someone who has never been to your town.

We do the work an arbitrageur won’t. We pull permits from the county building department. We call the supply house to confirm the contractor has an account. We read the reviews looking at velocity, language patterns, and how owners respond to bad ones — not the star average. We score every contractor against the same published rubric, and we publish the score, not just the rank.

We’re honest about what we can’t verify. We can’t audit any specific job site. We can’t predict whether a 10-year warranty will be honored. We tell you what we did, what we found, and what we couldn’t find — so you can make a real decision instead of trusting a banner ad.
